Considering the variety of consequences that can follow as a result of a domestic violence case in Colorado, it makes sense for anyone dealing with such issues to be in touch early with an attorney. That's the best way to ensure that one's rights are being protected.
General penalties for a conviction of a domestic violence charge can include fines, probation, or perhaps even jail time. But in addition to that, one can expect that the court will require the defendant to submit to evaluation and treatment in order to encourage behavior changes. There are fees associated with all of that.
Collateral issues that can surface as a result can include bans against returning to one's residence, if the alleged victim is an occupant. The conviction could be used later in civil cases, such as a divorce. Those in the country illegally could face deportation. One's livelihood, now and in the future, could be affected, as well.
An unidentified man arrested earlier this week on suspicion of domestic violence might benefit from this knowledge. The full nature of the case authorities may have against him hasn't been made public. All officials have said is that they took the man into custody Wednesday night near James A. Bible Park on suspicion of domestic violence.
According to investigators, matters began to unfold late in the afternoon when police began following the man as he drove along Interstate 70 near Colorado Boulevard. What prompted their action isn't clear. They did not try to stop the man or launch into a high-speed chase. Rather, they say they called in a police helicopter and tracked the man to the park. He was later arrested without incident.
As noted earlier, the full reasons why this man was being hunted remain a mystery at the time this post is written. Police have said only that domestic violence is suspected.
